Matrix Raining Code v2

August 14th, 2007

The Matrix Raining Code:Reloaded, this time with Particular and a much more stylised kind of effect using a custom particle. I’ll be going on to make something on this in 3D but still in AE, using AE’s 3d space to adapt the effect which is looking pretty good at the moment, but you might have to wait a while before it’s finished. Regardless, this is a cool effect.

Nice tutorial. I originally learned how to do the raining text from your first Matrix Text tutorial. It’s been ages since I checked this site, just been playin around in After Effects and thought I’d have a look at this place and lo and behold…….a make-over ;-)

All in all, I can’t wait for the next one with the 3D Effect. Keep up the great work.

You need to install the font.

Control panel > fonts > file > install new font, locate your font and install. It will then be available in all your programs.

  23. ryan Says:

weres control panel located at so i can install my matrix font

  24. admin Says:

    Assuming you’re on Windows,

Start > Control Panel. Failing that, just type it into the address bar where you’d see something like ‘My Documents’, replace with ‘Control Panel’.

  25. ryan Says:

then it says pick a category.

  26. admin Says:

    Switch to classic mode.

  27. ryan Says:

ok i figured it out. but on other thing. when im in the composition custom particles i click on animator and then range selector 1 and then i have to click on thbe stopwatch next to start so i can type in wiggler. when i click on the stopwatch it dosent let me type in wiggler, like on your tutorial. i click on the stop watch but it hi lights the stopwatch and want let me type. what do i do.

  28. admin Says:

Alt-click the stopwatch for the expression pane.

  29. ryan Says:

    one more thing
on render, i click lossless and chose QuickTime Media for my format. Then under video format options what should be the compression type.

  30. admin Says:

Sorenson 3 or H.264 is pretty good for web compression if you plan on putting your stuff online. If you’re looking for an intemdiary codec then Animation and PNG are lossless formats, but the file size will be pretty heavy.

    Regards,

    R.

  31. ryan Says:

    and one more thing
this is totally off the subject, but how can you add slow motion to my clips.
i have some footage that has gun shot effect. theres a clip were my friend is diving while shoting and i wanted to know how to add slow motion. theres other programs i use to add slow motion, but those other programs i used added slow motion to the hole clip. i just want to know how to add slow motion to part of a clip. not the whole clip, but just part of a clip.

  32. admin Says:

There are a couple of ways of doing it. Look into time remapping and also time stretching. For time remapping, right click your layer > time > time remapping. Here you can adjust keyframes for how fast sections of a clip play at. It’s probably easiest if you get the graph view up, go to speed and tinker from there.

    Regards,

    R.

  33. ryan Says:

are u going to make a muzzle flash tutorial

  34. admin Says:

Perhaps at some point, i’d have to acquire some gun firing footage.

  35. Larry Says:

    Hi,
Ok first I would like to say this is a great tutorial really, I think people schould use video tutorials alot more it’s way more easyier for the newbies like myself to learn the program this way .
Anyway I just got After effects and I still need to learn alot about it. Right now i’m trying your tutorial and i’m stuck at the part where i need to type the text, I just can’t start a new line… I tried different key combinations but i just can’t find the right one, could you give me the key combination please ?

Thx in advance ! and please make more tutorials , they are great ! :D

  36. admin Says:

shift+enter is generally used for new-lines.

  37. Larry Says:

I tried that it doesn’t work, he places the cursor back in the beginning of the line.
    I also tried alt+enter , ctrl+enter, alt+shift+enter, none of them work…
the only way he creates a new line is by making a new text layer, but that’s not normal…

  38. hi Says:

    Happy matrixing
